HIV to Home Charity update!
Thank you from the bottom of my little scalloped heart for all your donations for our chosen charity, From HIV to Home. You have really made a difference, and we are so excited to be sending off our first donation check to the orphanage this week! As you may or may not know, we chose this charity because it hits very close to home. One of our own Cut@Homies, Steve, is adopting a 5 year old HIV+ girl, Frazer. Steve’s wife, Sage, had the privilege of traveling to Ethiopia in December and spent a few weeks in the orphanage getting to know Frazer, helping out there and finalizing the adoption with the Ethiopian government. Out of respect for the orphanage, we are not allowed to post any pictures of Frazer until after the adoption is finalized. However, I can share an excerpt from Sage’s last email:
“Our case in Ethiopia passed today! Frazer is officially about to travel 22 hours on a plane to a land and a people she has never known! She is coming HOME! She really has a wonderful personality. Happy, silly, shy and just plain awesome!!! I get to be her MOM! What an amazing experience thus far. I am one lucky girl. I was able to visit Frazer in December. WOW, what a great time I had. Wonderful weather, wonderful company, wonderful kids! Ethiopia is full of life and beautiful culture. I was able to stay in a guest house that was really close to the orphanage. I learned so many things each day walking down the streets of Addis Ababa to the orphanage that have forever changed me. I learned about Love and Survival…wealth and poverty. I especially loved the community children on their way to school, eager to shake my hand and try out their English “good morning” with a smile. I watched mothers and children walk to the market hand in hand all the while thinking of Frazer. Her birth mother walked along those same crazy streets. Believe me, you have to be pretty strong to walk along those streets….I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful life.”
Isn’t that inspiring? Hats off to Steve and Sage for opening their homes and their hearts to this little girl. And if I do say so myself, Frazer is a very lucky girl to have found such an amazing family to belong to.
Thank you Sage for sharing part of your journey to bring Frazer home with our Cut@Home family. Thank you all again for being so generous during this time of economic hardship and give to these special little children who have so little. We have so much. I echo Sage’s sentiment: I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful life.
Thanks!
Marcie
