Using Grand Calibur with 8 1/2 x 11″ Paper

I am always excited to find helpful tips and tricks to make my life easier! Here’s one for you, straight from the wonderful staff at Spellbinders on how to use the Grand Calibur with 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper. If you have or are planning to purchase the fabulous Spellbinders Grand Calibur Die Cutting Machine, this is a great tip by Beth! Here is what she says,

“The Grand Calibur in deed ALLOWS an 8.5 x 11 piece of scrapbook paper or cardstock through the machine with out trimming the paper. However, because of the white tray, which serves as a guide to align the plates in the machine, the edges of the paper will crinkle.

In the case where you would like to preserve the edges of the paper, you can remove the tray in one of two ways. Spellbinder’s Design Team Member Kazan Clark prepared this video showing us how to remove the tray.”

Or visit the video on YouTube at this link: http://youtu.be/H3mF-ALm0ms

I would like to add that I already took my tray off of my machine and it works great! I did have to recruit my youngest son though, he’s much stronger than me! I love being able to cut a whole sheet of 8 1/2 x 11″ paper and it is so easy to crank! Very nice!

See Instructions Below:

Remove the tray by feeding a sandwich from the back side:

1. Secure the Grand Calibur to a table, counter top or other smooth, strong surface.
2. Create an embossing sandwich with the Base Plate, Tan Embossing Pad and Embossing Plate
3. Feed the embossing sandwich into the back of the Grand Calibur
4. Turn the handle
5. The tray will come loose and you will be able to remove it.

*When feeding the sandwiches into the Grand Calibur without the tray, center the mats in the opening and turn the handle to feed the sandwich as usual.

You may replace the tray or continue to use the Grand Calibur without it. Removing the tray should not damage the tray or machine. Die cutting and embossing is not affected by the tray.

To replace the tray:

1.  Align the grooves in the tray with the pink “rails” inside of the opening of the Grand Calibur.
2.  Firmly push and tap the tray back into the unit taking care to keep it straight and even with the machine.
3. The tray will then snap into place. If the sides should become unevenly entered into the machine, pull the tray back out and replace it keeping both sides straight.
