Making Memories Slice and Slice Elite Machines!

What is the difference between the Making Memories Slice and Slice Elite Cordless Digital Design Cutters, you ask? Well, lets start with the basics!

Both are comparable as far as looks; size is less than 5″, weight-2 pounds, and both have a 2″ preview window. Both run either on rechargeable batteries or can be plugged in with the power cord, which allows total flexibility for taking it to crops, vacation, etc.! Both take the same design cards and are offered in blue or pink!

With the Slice, you can  select from thousands of high-style images and instantly convert them into die-cuts up to 8 sizes ranging between 1/2 inch and 4 inch tall.

The Slice Elite has a hardware upgrade which allows the ELITE to cut more precise, 40% faster and twice as deep. Cut textured cardstock, vellum, vinyl, acetate, foam sheets, thin metal sheets and photos up to 1mm thick. Cut 1 inch to 4 inch designs in 1/2 inch increments anywhere on any size media.

WHY CHOOSE THE SLICE OR SLICE ELITE, you might ask?
1. Because it’s on-the-go just like you. Weighing less than two pounds, this 5″ square wonder goes everywhere you go. And because it’s cordless you can cut anywhere on any size media.

I purchased the Vintage Settings Die and not one design is produced. Totally different designs are cut and nothing is on the card design that is cut out. I have the Slice Elite and realize that I cannot change the blades, either. I tried several times contacting Making Memories by phone but was sent to the same number and no human being. Any help?

  2. Cut@Home Says:

Hi Louise, Sounds like you may have received a design that was mis-packaged! You definitely need to contact Making Memories about this. You should be able to reach them (and a human being) at 1-800-286-5263. I have never personally used the Slice Elite, but we have had very few complaints about the machine, so I am assuming that most customers are very happy with it.

I haven’t checked in here for a while because I thought it was getting boring, but the last few posts are good quality so I guess I’ll add you back to my daily bloglist. You deserve it my friend :)

    Thanks!

  5. val Says:

Can you use all the pink accessories with the blue slice machine.

  6. Cut@Home Says:

Oh yes, they are all the same, just different colors!

  7. Louise Dahlgren Says:

Do I need to change the blade with the Slice Elite? I do problems with the paper sticking too much to the magnetic board. How do I know how much spray to use? I did not know that I can cut various items with the Elite? Is this any better than the Big Shot?

  8. Cut@Home Says:

Yes, you should change the blade on your Slice Elite when it starts to get dull and does not perform well. Getting the right amount of spray on your mat just takes practice and applying it gradually until you get the right stickyness.
It is hard to compare the Elite with the Big Shot, as they are completely different types of machines. The Slice Elite is an electronic machine which takes an SD card with digital images for cutting. The Big Shot is a manual machine which requires dies to cut images. It is totally personal preference as to which machine is best for you!

  9. Vicky Says:

Hi Please can you tell me if the slice fabrique blades can go in the slice and slice elite please?

    Many thanks

  10. Cut@Home Says:

I believe the blades are the same size, but the fabrique blade is for cutting fabric and the others are for paper. You may want to contact Making Memories just to be sure.

I have had and loved my slice for several years now. It recently has just quit running correctly. I’m not sure if they are even making them anymore? I can find products for it online, but no local stores carry slice . Is making memories still making the slice ? There is very little information about it anymore. I’m not sure if it’s worth buying another machine if I can find one.

  12. Cut@Home Says:

Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately, we have not carried Slice products for nearly 2 years and are unable to answer your inquiry as to whether Making Memories is still manufacturing the Slice Machine. You will need to contact Making Memories directly. I am sorry that we are unable to answer your questions at this time.

  13. Louise Dahlgren Says:

I, also, had the Slice. Then, when the upgrade to the Elite was issued, I purchased it. It only lasted about a year. It would jump everywhere and no clean cuts. A manager, from Archivers gave me her old Slice. It works beautifully. Making Memories no longer makes the machine. I have been able to purchase blades, etc. from Amazon. I can get a repositionable spray from Michaels. Check out Amazon. I, also, decided to get the Cuttlebug. I am very happy with that decision. I hope this helps.

  14. Cut@Home Says:

Thank you for your comments Louise! It is always good to have someone with personal experience with a particular machine give their input. We appreciate your advise!

  15. Anne BLIGNAUT Says:

If the card caused the slice machine to beep 3x and do not switch on what could be the problem?

  16. Cut@Home Says:

Unfortunately Anne, I am not personally familiar with the use of the Slice machine. We used to carry them, but discontinued about 2 years ago. You will need to contact Making Memories directly. Sorry!

  17. Louise Dahlgren Says:

My Slice Elite would bounce all over the card. I would say your machine has “bit” the dust. I received the original machine from a manager from Archivers. It works great. I think Making Memories could have produced a better electronic machine for us. They do not answer questions anymore. I had tried repeatedly. I don’t know if they company is still in business. You, also, may want to try the repositional spray instead of the glue. I wish you luck. I now have the Cuttlebug, too. Much better quality and cuts. However, I did love all the designs from the Slice.

  18. Cut@Home Says:

Thanks for your comments Louise! We appreciate your input since we have not used the machine here.
