Clowning Around

Friday, May 17th, 2013

Here is our Clowning Around page layout that you can use for all the clowns in your family. Heather and I made 13 of these pages because Heather is part of a scrapbook exchange. With this exchange they get together every three months (Girls Night) and they each get one page from everyone else. It is really nice because she gets fresh ideas and has a bunch of pages that she just needs to add the pictures.

This layout was a lot of fun and even better when we found these pictures or our kids clowning around. We used DCWV’s the Kidlet Stack because it had this great paper that we thought liked like the circus. We also used a lot of bling because when we got it done it just felt like it was missing something, I am sure you have done that before so if that ever happens just grab some rhinestones from Want2Scrap and it can really finish off a layout.

Heather loves this exchange because she gets a lot of pages out of it, a girls night out, and it keeps her scrapbooking. If you don’t do something like this just find a few friends that scrapbook and see if they would like to do it and you will be surprised how quickly it will grow.

Foil Mothers Day Cards

Friday, May 10th, 2013

We got some foil on our last order and they made such fun and easy Mothers Day cards. If you have forgotten about Mothers Day, first off shame on you, but here is an idea for some last minute ideas for a card. We used Spellbinders #2 foil packs which have 5 different color choices that really work with the Mothers Day feel but you can get them in all sorts of colors and even natural metal colors so check them out. Just start with a background pattern or color and fold your card. Next use some kind of texture folder, we used Spellbinders Framed Lables 18 and Crafts-Two’s Tulip Window. With the blue one we just used it straight as it came out of the folder but on the pink one we lightly sanded the surface which took off the paint on the texture which emphasizes the pattern. One little helpful hint on these just throw a sheet of wax paper between the foil and the folder so it comes out really slick. Add a few stamps on the front and add the bling and you are ready to give to the mothers in your life.

Well I hope all you mothers have a happy Mothers Day and again I hope this helps all you procrastinators (me included) wish the mothers in your life a happy day.

Mother’s Day Gift Album

Monday, May 6th, 2013

Alright folks, you have ONE week until Mother’s Day, so here’s is another Mother’s Day Gift Album idea. This is actually going to Grandma from my two cuties, so you can really make this for any lovely woman in your life. First off, if you’re reading this blog looking for a Mother’s Day idea, let me tell you, most women (at least the one’s I know) love thoughtful, homemade gifts from their children. Sure, you can flower her with roses (and by all means do so if you’d like), but gift her something from those children that they can help make! It’s fun, it’s personal, and it will make her heart melt.

First off, you need to choose your album. Want2Scrap has a plethora of different albums and what they’re made out of. I used a Mixed Media Album because I liked that it had different chipboard/paper/medias to offer. I’m so glad I went with this because I was able to use my imagination more and my kids were able to get their hands dirty as well! I wasn’t sure what to do with the corrugated…until I saw fingerpaints! I had her create a 2 year old masterpiece and she really liked the bumps. I had them stamp their hands on the canvas and they got to play with magic marker for another picture. I know they were in heaven as they excitedly ruined two marker heads. I’m glad they did.

After you’ve chosen your album, it’s time to choose your paper! I love the DCWV line (ok…I just love paper), but they have so many options to choose from that you can’t go wrong.

* Adhere the paper to the album FIRST, and then cut it out! I suggest using a craft knife (especially if you have an intricate album) but using scissors works great too! This makes the paper fit the chipboard better.

I used some of the new QuicKutz dies that cut AND emboss! They are so cute! They are super easy to use and I love that they don’t get stuck in the die; they just pop right out! Easy. When you’re dong with your paper/ dies, embellish that puppy up! Want2Scrap Bling and American Craft Ribbon (SO adorable!) are the perfect ways to add SO MUCH pizzaz to any project.

HAVE FUN with it and it will be awesome!

Mothers Day Album

Friday, May 3rd, 2013

Mothers Day is coming up pretty quick so what better gift could you give her than an album full of pictures of her children? Unfortunately I can’t give this one to Heather because she made half of it but take a few minutes and make one for the mother you have in your life. We had these pictures that grandma took as they played cowboy (and cowgirl) at their house. These Albums from Want2Scrap are really fun to put together and they have so many different styles to choose from. Sometimes it is nice to get a break from doing page layouts that are not the usual size, it allows you to approach it a little different than you normally do. We also used a lot of different papers but took a lot of them from Teresa Collins He Said She Said pack which includes so many different papers, embellishments, and anything else you might need to jazz up a page. Take a look:

Make Fabulous Cards With Sizzix Thinlits!

Wednesday, April 17th, 2013

Make fabulous cards with Sizzix Thinlits! You can also make beautiful layouts if you are a scrapbooker. These wafer thin dies come as sets in a cute little storage envelope, which make these extremely easy to store! To view all of the Sizzix Thinlits we carry, please click HERE.

As you probably know by now, I like to keep my projects fairly simple, so I can get them done in a reasonable time frame. If I can’t complete a project within and hour or two, it may NEVER get finished! I have to get them done and out of the way to make room for the next project. Are any of you like that? Geez, I hope I’m not the only one!

IMG_6154

For my card today, I used 659110-Thinlits 5PK For the Record 2 Tailored. The doily in this set is so pretty and very easy to cut out! I cut a circle out of velum to go behind it to give it a soft buffer from the background paper.

Here is my list of other products used to complete this card.

Pinewood Derby Sign

Friday, April 12th, 2013

I am the Cubmaster in our neighborhood and our Pinewood Derby is coming up so I thought that it would be nice to make a sign for the Scouts to take pictures in front of with their cars. I started looking through my stuff and found a wood grain stamp from Hero Arts and Heather found some paper for the car that had sparkly wood grain for the car from the Playtime Stack by Die Cuts with a View. I think that it turned out and it will make a fun backdrop for a lot of proud scouts holding their cars that they have worked so hard on. These kind of things are so easy and quick to do, if you have an event, especially a pinewood derby, go and get crafty and make a fun sign for it.

Page Layout with DCWV

Friday, March 15th, 2013

This week is all about DCWV’s The Kidlet Stack, Heather and I decided to use a common paper for a page layout and see how different they would be in the end. The funny thing is that when we finished and showed each other our pages they looked very similar even to the point that they could work well as a spread.

Wow what a cute kid right? I really like how both pages use colors that relate to the pictures.  I decided to stick with the paper stack because it came with a page full of all sorts of fun images to use as embellishments. Heather used the paper as an accent and then dolled it up using Spellbinders Playtime die cut set. I really like how these turned out even if they are very similar.

So get some of these paper stacks from DCWV because they make page layouts really quick and easy.

Teacher Appreciation Gift Idea

Friday, March 8th, 2013

It is Teacher Appreciation Week so Heather and I thought a fun handmade gift would be fun to give to our kids teachers, here are a few ideas that you can use to thank your teachers for all they do. For the first idea we just went to the store and picked up some cheep clip boards and decorated them. For the paper we used DCWV, the background was from the Kidlet Stack and everything else was from A Type of Art because it really related to teaching with all the numbers and letters. We also found two Cricut cartridges that had some fun school related cutouts that was a nice finishing touch.

As for the paper clips they are so simple, we just used Hero Arts Remember Your kindness stamp set because it had a stamp that was a circle and cut out an extra circle and basically glued the two circles together sandwiching the paperclip.

Our kids are really excited to give these to their teachers, they wrote a nice little thank you on the back of them with a marker. Coming from a teacher please take a few minutes to make a nice little gift for your students teachers, it really helps to know that they are appreciated for what they do. We did 2 different ideas for you to hopefully take and go with, click here to view the other post.

Horsin’ Around 12×12 Scrapbook Page!

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

I usually like to create two page layouts to keep my scrapbooks uniform, but this time I decided to put my photos on one Horsin’ Around 12×12 scrapbook page instead of spread them over two pages, since I only had 3 photos of this occasion. As you can see, my grand kids love riding the rocking horse. They love that it actually whinnies and makes a clip-clop sound while they ride. They even know which ear to press when it stops.  I hope they don’t think they can do that with a real horse, ’cause I don’t think a real one would like his ear pinched!

Okay, so I actually used my scissors to fussy cut out some of my details out of my DCWV Bouquet De Fleur pattern paper! Can you believe it? I actually saw something similar done on one of the blogs I follow and I really liked it, so I thought I’d give it a try.

Now the horses were a different story. I totally cut them out by making a template first, then putting the template and die over the stamped image and ran them through my Big Shot! SOOOOO much easier than scissors!

Blue Citrus Box

Monday, February 25th, 2013

Die Cuts With A View has come out with some extremely fun new paper lines! I know, it is super hard to choose which one you want, but I had my eye on the Blue Citrus pack and, let me tell ya, it’s gorgeous! I have so many fun projects that I want to use this paper for, but a treat box quickly ran to the top of my list. I am a piano teacher and had a huge wicker basket loaded with treats for my students. After a couple of years, I have gotten really sick of how huge it is and that it’s always full of stuff other than treats. So, I got what I think is a brilliant idea to make a darling treat box.

First, I just grabbed the only box I thought might work. It was way too tall for what I had in mind, so I cut it down to a 4 inch height. Then, all I did was size my paper and Mod Podge it to the box. I had a friend sitting with me and she suggests that an adhesive spray would be faster too if you’d like to try that out.

Next, I used my QuicKutz Sunrise Doily and Heartfelt Creations Vintage Floret dies to embellish the box. Oh, and the adorable Eyelet Circle Punches are a new fav! I love a die that gives you several pieces by one run through your machine! Seriously, they are so cute! I just glued them to my box and put the treats inside. I love that it’s cute. I love that it’s small. And I love, love, love the Blue Citrus!

A Gift for Any Occasion

Friday, December 28th, 2012

Here is a last minute gift that we put together for my Grandpa King for a Christmas gift but it would work for any occasion. When my Grandma was alive my Grandma and Grandpa loved to sing together so we decided to use music paper to make this name plate so we grabbed our Performance Stack made by Die Cuts With A View. We just cut out an oval out of a piece of wood and routed the edge but if you don’t want to do that you can just get some pre-cut at most art supply stores. Then we just painted the board and then we just grabbed our handy old Mod Podge and stuck on the paper, die cut letters, and embellishments from Cricut. We literally finished this project from start to finish in about an hour so if you are in need of a quick gift idea try this one out.

Mini Book Ornaments with My Minds Eye

Friday, December 7th, 2012

Here is a fun Ornament ideas for your Christmas tree this year-mini book ornament using My Minds Eye Christmas paper! I know that when you think of Christmas ornaments, books aren’t the first thing that comes to mind, but they make a fun and interesting addition to the tree. You can fill them full of little pictures of your kids sitting on Santa’s lap or Christmases of years past and they are a lot of fun to look back on every year. All we did was cover some book board with a Christmas paper, glued the folded white paper on the interior, and lastly added some fun embellishments or ribbon to the front (the fun part). Give them a try and give your tree some variety this year.

Want2Scrap Leaf Album!

Wednesday, November 21st, 2012

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving in the USA and no matter how you celebrate this Want2Scrap Leaf Album is perfect for storing those captured moments with family, friends or even personal thoughts for future generations. See HERE for all of our chipboard albums!

What are you thankful for? Of course, my first thoughts are of my family, but when I really think about it, there are so many simple things I am grateful for, that my list could go on forever!

I created this album using Want2 Scrap’s Chipboard Album Leaf by Joe Rotella as a fun way to store our Thanksgiving photos and I would like each of us to write down what we are grateful for, so I can scrapbook those thoughts in the album next to their photo, just to make it more personalized.

It was fun, but I’m not done yet. I will finish embellishing the inside when I get the photos and individual gratitude sheets placed, so I have plenty of room for those, then embellish around them.

I started out tracing the pattern on paper and cutting with scissors, but quickly discarded the scissors for an X-acto Knife and my cutting mat.  That was much better! Here are a few of the pages.

Other products used were:

DCWV Harvest Gathering Stack and Cardstock Stack (from my older paper stash)

Want2Scrap 6105 Frilly Flourish Swirl-Silver Rhinestones

Want2Scrap 4306-S Silhouettes-Garden Motiff

Want2Scrap 3177 Chipboard Sentiments-Moments

TIM32823-Tim Holtz Distress Ink Gathered Twigs (See more color choices HERE)

This is also a fun project to do with kids (let them cut with scissors), as a family Thanksgiving activitiy when you are to stuffed to do anything else!

As we head into this holiday season, let us all keep in our minds those things which we are truly grateful for. If we do that, we are more thoughtful of those less fortunate.

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Cut@Home! May you all have a safe and wonderful holiday weekend!

Thanks and Happy Scrappin’!

Sizzix Dies Perfect with Homespun Paper

Monday, October 29th, 2012

These Sizzix Dies work perfectly with the Homespun Paper! They are homey and adorable, just like the paper! One thing that I think is so insanely awesome about the Sizzix BigZ Dies is that you can use it with more than paper. You can use felt, fabric, vinyl, you name it! It does it all and they cut so easily! Want to put an adorable flower on your daughters shirt? Look no more! Just run your die and fabric through your machine and walah! Sew it onto your shirt and you have a cute new design for your daughters wardrobe. I don’t know about you, but I crave different crafts practically each week, so that would definitely be different (and FUN) for me to do!

For my layout, I used the Homespun 12X12 paper from Die Cuts With A View. I chose 4 sheets of coordinating paper and cut them up until I found a design that I liked. I love to layer paper! After I got done with my background, I kept it fairly simple, so that the focus would mainly be on the pictures and the sizzix dies. I embellished with the irreplaceable Want2Scrap pink pearls, little paper cut outs from the My Mind’s Eye Tangerine paper pad, and my go-to die QuicKutz Nesting Butterflies.
