Baby Girl Card Ideas!

Tuesday, June 18th, 2013

One of the best purchases I have made in my lifetime has been my Die Cutting Machines and some dies because I have saved so much money (well, you know what I mean) by making my own cards like these baby girl card ideas! Doing this has given me a creative outlet in my cards and scrapbook layouts and have the capability to make original cards for others.  I love that and I know that all of you do too, since we share the same passion!

I made these cards mainly with Spellbinders dies and my brand new, pretty blue Sizzix Big Shot machine! I love the new face lift on it! Both cards were easy enough for a beginner and  a lot of fun to put together! It is so fun  making cards for new mommies and their babies! They are excited about every thing-including the cards! BTW- I kept the wax paper that I used to cut the butterfly out on it to soften the color of the card stock and it gave the embossed parts a naturally frosted look.

Easy Beginner Cards

Monday, June 17th, 2013

All of you out there who are new to card making, these beginner cards are just for you! If you think I’m lying, please know that my mother-in-law actually made these. She hasn’t scrapbooked in probably 20 years and has never used a die-cutting machine….ever. She had so much fun making these and is truly converted and it only took me about 20 minutes to convert her to die-cutting. Success!

For all of you beginners, this is what you need.

1. Die-cutting machine (click HERE to see all of the cool machines we carry)

2. Paper/cardstock

3. One or two dies

4. Embellishments (stamps, bling, etc.). You can literally use anything you want for this step! Anything.

My mother-in-law was so excited that this is all you need to get started. We made more than these two cards with just those 4 things and they all turned out different. You really don’t need a store’s supply of product to get started, just a few things (and you probably have most of those around your house!).

Summer Wedding Cards

Monday, June 10th, 2013

It’s June and that means a lot of us will be attending weddings, which means that everyone will need a healthy supply of  Summer Wedding Cards! I’m always so grateful to have some on hand because I’m always running late to the reception and in need of a card.

If you’re thinking that these cards look like too much work, let me assure you that they’re not. I just made the big move from Utah to Texas (and we love it) and I was able to manage creating two beautiful cards amidst unpacking, putting my house together, having family in town, teaching my mother-in-law how to make cards, etc. These really are conducive to your busy summer schedule. One must have that I will never say loud enough is that you NEED the Bitty Blossoms by Spellbinders. NEED. It’s not a want, people. It’s second to breathing.

Second, I want to feature the Scalloped Borders One die that I used on these two cards. I was a little skeptical when I got these. I wasn’t sure if it would be something I would like to use on cards, or any project for that matter. Now that I have used them, I don’t know if I’ll ever make another card without using them! They are beautiful!!! Absolutely darling! You can see it best on the second card, but I love the detail on both and they take it up an extra beautiful notch. Go crazy with your flowers and it will blow your mind at how beautiful your cards turn out!

Make Your Own Sketchbook

Friday, May 24th, 2013

I teach an AP Art class and if you know anything about AP classes you always have about 2 weeks left after they take their tests so in AP Art we do a little bookmaking and each student makes their own sketchbook that they can fill up through out the summer. Here are a few examples of books that I made with them where I used Bo Bunny and Authentique paper as the cover. This paper is perfect for the cover because it is sturdy and durable (Plus it looks really nice). After I got them done here at the school I took them home and Heather and I added some fun things to to finish them off.

DSC_0674With this one we just used some foil and stamped it with Spellbinders Floral Set, sanded the surface so you can see the texture a little better, cut it out , and glued it on.

DSC_0672For this one we just cut out the number from a page in The Sweetest Thing paper stack by My Minds Eye and added some pearls.

DSC_0673

And on the last one we felt like if we added anything to it it would make it too busy so just left it as it was.

These books are a lot of fun and you can use them for more than just sketchbooks so give one a try and make yourself a journal, notebook, or anything else you need a book to take notes in.

Any Occasion Card With Sizzix!

Thursday, May 23rd, 2013

This week has been a very eventful week with so many good and sad things happening so I thought I would make A Any occasion Card with Sizzix.  I wanted this card to look happy and uplifting but humble and I think I captured that.  I love Bo Bunny paper and the colors so I really wanted to use this paper with my card.  KaiserCraft has these beautiful Die Cut Shapes with words, flowers, tags all included and I just love to use this collection with my cards.  And of course I used my Big Shot Sizzix machine to cut out some Sizzix Flower Layers w/Heart petals Die Cuts that are so fun to use and create many different layers of flowers for any project.  I chose  warm greens and browns and yellows with this card design but it will work with any color that you choose.

Heartfelt Creations Sweet Serenity Collection!

Monday, May 20th, 2013

Father’s Day is just around the corner and I know you’re wanting to get that special man something wonderful. This is where the Heartfelt Creations Sweet Serenity Collection comes into play. Yes, at first glance, this paper does NOT look masculine in any way, shape, or form, but I promise that you can make it manly with a twist of fancy…ahem…dare I say fancy and manly in the same sentence? You betcha!

I don’t know about you, but my Father is IMPOSSIBLE to shop for. I think I may have mentioned this on more than one occasion. Impossible. Since I will be in the middle of moving and unloading boxes in my new Texas home, I wanted something easy to send to him that I know he can get what he wants. What does that mean? Yes, you’re right. A giftcard. Gift cards are a little impersonal, so let’s get this decorative holder going to show that you really do think of him and spend time on his gifts (although you don’t have to spend hours). Start with your QuicKuts Pocket Envelope, make it snazzy, and walah! Father’s Day complete.

Also in this beautiful collection comes the Vintage floret stamp, which I couldn’t pass up in making a card. This is just incredibly gorgeous and so fun to make. It looks like you’ve spent a ton of time, but really haven’t because the product does all the work for you. I like to color in the details on stamps like these to give it more color and dimension. I used a fine tip marker to make the flowers pop and draw more attention to the center. Also a great Father’s Day card idea!

Clowning Around

Friday, May 17th, 2013

Here is our Clowning Around page layout that you can use for all the clowns in your family. Heather and I made 13 of these pages because Heather is part of a scrapbook exchange. With this exchange they get together every three months (Girls Night) and they each get one page from everyone else. It is really nice because she gets fresh ideas and has a bunch of pages that she just needs to add the pictures.

This layout was a lot of fun and even better when we found these pictures or our kids clowning around. We used DCWV’s the Kidlet Stack because it had this great paper that we thought liked like the circus. We also used a lot of bling because when we got it done it just felt like it was missing something, I am sure you have done that before so if that ever happens just grab some rhinestones from Want2Scrap and it can really finish off a layout.

Heather loves this exchange because she gets a lot of pages out of it, a girls night out, and it keeps her scrapbooking. If you don’t do something like this just find a few friends that scrapbook and see if they would like to do it and you will be surprised how quickly it will grow.

A Romantic Occasion Card Idea Using Sizzix!

Thursday, May 16th, 2013
We’re heading into wedding season which also means lots of anniversaries are celebrated as well during this time,  so I thought I would share a romantic occasion card idea using Sizzix Framelits 11PK w/ Stamps Love set.
They say if your married in June, you’re a bride all your life, so why not create a card that can be a keepsake for life! After all, we make cards because we love it and we want the recipient to love it too!
You can use your own color scheme to even match the brides colors if you choose, but I really wanted to use the brown patterned paper, and loved it with the blue.  I thought it looked rich and elegant.

Foil Mothers Day Cards

Friday, May 10th, 2013

We got some foil on our last order and they made such fun and easy Mothers Day cards. If you have forgotten about Mothers Day, first off shame on you, but here is an idea for some last minute ideas for a card. We used Spellbinders #2 foil packs which have 5 different color choices that really work with the Mothers Day feel but you can get them in all sorts of colors and even natural metal colors so check them out. Just start with a background pattern or color and fold your card. Next use some kind of texture folder, we used Spellbinders Framed Lables 18 and Crafts-Two’s Tulip Window. With the blue one we just used it straight as it came out of the folder but on the pink one we lightly sanded the surface which took off the paint on the texture which emphasizes the pattern. One little helpful hint on these just throw a sheet of wax paper between the foil and the folder so it comes out really slick. Add a few stamps on the front and add the bling and you are ready to give to the mothers in your life.

A Bo Bunny Mothers Day Card Idea

Thursday, May 9th, 2013

I made a page layout design last week and I couldn’t resist making a Bo Bunny mothers day card idea this week.  Bo Bunny has a beautiful paper kit called Love letters and I have used this collection pack a few times but I could not resist using it again because it has such beautiful paper and it can be used in so many ways.  I started off cutting down some card stock paper to 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 and then using the Bo Bunny paper I cut a sheet down to fit on the front of my card and I used the Hero Hues chalk ink to ink around the edges of the cardstock and the Bo Bunny paper.  I then used Spellbinders 5×7 Detailed Scallops Die with my Sizzix Big Shot Machine and then taped it all together with some Scor Tape and pop up stickers and finished it off with some Die Cut shapes from Kaiser Craft and bling from Want2Scrap, gotta have the bling!  I love this card.  I love the colors and how easy and fast it was to make,  It can be a mother’s day card or a Thank You card or just a pick me up card.  No matter how you use it whomever you give it to will love it because you made it and it looks like you put a ton of effort into making it just for them!

Mother’s Day Gift Album

Monday, May 6th, 2013

Alright folks, you have ONE week until Mother’s Day, so here’s is another Mother’s Day Gift Album idea. This is actually going to Grandma from my two cuties, so you can really make this for any lovely woman in your life. First off, if you’re reading this blog looking for a Mother’s Day idea, let me tell you, most women (at least the one’s I know) love thoughtful, homemade gifts from their children. Sure, you can flower her with roses (and by all means do so if you’d like), but gift her something from those children that they can help make! It’s fun, it’s personal, and it will make her heart melt.

First off, you need to choose your album. Want2Scrap has a plethora of different albums and what they’re made out of. I used a Mixed Media Album because I liked that it had different chipboard/paper/medias to offer. I’m so glad I went with this because I was able to use my imagination more and my kids were able to get their hands dirty as well! I wasn’t sure what to do with the corrugated…until I saw fingerpaints! I had her create a 2 year old masterpiece and she really liked the bumps. I had them stamp their hands on the canvas and they got to play with magic marker for another picture. I know they were in heaven as they excitedly ruined two marker heads. I’m glad they did.

After you’ve chosen your album, it’s time to choose your paper! I love the DCWV line (ok…I just love paper), but they have so many options to choose from that you can’t go wrong.

* Adhere the paper to the album FIRST, and then cut it out! I suggest using a craft knife (especially if you have an intricate album) but using scissors works great too! This makes the paper fit the chipboard better.

I used some of the new QuicKutz dies that cut AND emboss! They are so cute! They are super easy to use and I love that they don’t get stuck in the die; they just pop right out! Easy. When you’re dong with your paper/ dies, embellish that puppy up! Want2Scrap Bling and American Craft Ribbon (SO adorable!) are the perfect ways to add SO MUCH pizzaz to any project.

HAVE FUN with it and it will be awesome!

Mothers Day Album

Friday, May 3rd, 2013

Mothers Day is coming up pretty quick so what better gift could you give her than an album full of pictures of her children? Unfortunately I can’t give this one to Heather because she made half of it but take a few minutes and make one for the mother you have in your life. We had these pictures that grandma took as they played cowboy (and cowgirl) at their house. These Albums from Want2Scrap are really fun to put together and they have so many different styles to choose from. Sometimes it is nice to get a break from doing page layouts that are not the usual size, it allows you to approach it a little different than you normally do. We also used a lot of different papers but took a lot of them from Teresa Collins He Said She Said pack which includes so many different papers, embellishments, and anything else you might need to jazz up a page. Take a look:

A Mothers Day Page Layout

Thursday, May 2nd, 2013

I came across this beautiful and old picture of my mom and me and my brothers and I thought this would make a great Mothers day Page Layout.  My father served in the Military my whole childhood so I had the privilege to grow up overseas.  This picture, I believe was taken in Europe, and so I wanted to use some products that would bring back some of those memories from my childhood.  First Edition has this beautiful paper collection called Noir et Chic and it went perfectly with this black and white photo. I also used KaiserCraft collectables called 75 cents and it is a really fun and unique die cut shapes with warm colors and that European feel is was looking for.  I used my Sizzix Big Shot machine to cut my QuicKutz die called Nesting Flowers, to frame around my picture.  I also used, as always, some bling from Want2Scrap and Hero Hues Chalk Ink to finish off my look for my layout.  I showed my mother and her reaction was perfect, I got a huge OMG!  that was all I needed to hear to know that she loved this layout and that it brought all the feelings and memories to her that I was trying to capture.  Happy Mothers Day mom, and I love you!!
