Doodled Die Cut Cards Using Spellbinder In’Spire Caged

Thursday, June 12th, 2014

PicShells1

Today I want to share my doodling with you.  I’ve found it’s a fun pastime and often I’m surprised at how well the doodling turns out.  I had watched a fellow YouTuber doodle flowers and then make them into cards.  I couldn’t find any flower stamps that would work but I did find Spellbinders in’spire Caged die, and it was a great size to divide into sections and doodle.

I’ll show you the step by step for the one on the left in the video plus I’ll share still photos of all the cards shown along with one extra one to give you a little inspiration.

This is a simple process tP1130176o create the cards I’m showing you.  I die cut the in’spire die from American Crafts white 90# cardstock and removed the die.  Next I embossed the card base front with Sizzix Retro CirP1130178cles embossing folder. From the die cut caged dress I removed the lower middle, ‘the cage’ and traced the dress onto a plain piece of white cardstock with a fine tip Micron black pen.  I drew partitions throughout the dress and then filled each section with my doodling.

The next step is to mount the doodled dress to the back of the card front aligning the dress with the opening.  Of course this leaves you with a fine mess on the inside of the card.  Easily solved, cut a mat that will fit on the back leaving 1/4″ between the mat and the edges of the card.  I used decorative paper from Kaisercraft‘s Storyteller 6 1/2″ square pad. These are great paper pads, they not only come with the designer papers but also die cuts and specialty papers which include edging strips.  A great value for your pennies.   By adding a couple of the mats, a border and some tea-dyed seam binding you’ve finished the inside of the card.  And tell me now, would you realize the left side looked ucky before that mat was put down, looks like it belongs huh?

This card is a standard A2 size, 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.  I’ll also show you two note size 4 1/4″ square (shown in the large photo above) in the video photos.  I wanted to mention another styling tip I gleaned online this week.  On the smaller cards above I used my Wink of Stella glitter pen and Faber-Castell black Gelato to create a color wash.  Wow!  I love this technique, thank you YouTube crafter for sharing this with us.  You simply swipe your Gelato across the surface you’re wanting to color and then brush it into shape with the Wink of Stella glitter brush pen.  If you don’t have Wink of Stella experiment with some Perfect Pearls and a water pen and see what you come up with.

So crafty friends, join me on the video and in the mean time Thanks and Happy Scrappin’!

Accordion Folded Cards

Friday, October 18th, 2013

Accordian Fold-019

Using simple folds you can create a card with lots of interest for the recipient.   Start with a card base of 5 1/2″x12″. Score it at 1 3/8″ – 2 3/4″ – 5 1/4″ – 7 3/4″.  Crease your score lines creating mountain and valley folds.

I fussy cut a Reindeer from the Bo Bunny Silver & Gold Collection to become the focal point of the first fold of my card.  By lining the left edge with the edge of the card and extending the right side over the fold you’ll have a card that pops out at you from the very start.  For my second card I used Tim Holt’s Tattered Poinsettia die cutting it from Kraft paper and distressing the edges with ink.  When I had glued it together I ran the whole piece through my Cuttlebug with the Textile Embossing folder.  Wow does this save on time and comes out wonderfully.  You’ll  need to fiddle with the petals once you take it out of the embosser to lift them up and give them life.  Add a few Stickles and you’ve got the focal point on the second card done.

Accordian Fold-006

I added Diamond Stickles on all the cords that hung the snowflakes from the deers antlers (you’ll see more photos in my video). To make the red snowflakes pop a little more I used red tinsel glitter I had on hand and a pearl eye finished out my Reindeer.

Accordian Fold-017

On the poinsettia card I used decorative papers from Heartfelt Creations Frosty Blanket Collection to mat the card folds.  The sentiments on both cards are from the Heartfelt Creations Christmas Sentiment Circles.    I wanted to mat the larger sentiment and decided to use a couple of dies from Spellbinders Fascination and Heart Circles sets.  Don’t overlook pulling out just a single die from your sets to use here and there.  The stacked mat was perfect for my circle sentiment which I had embossed in gold shimmer powder.

One of the best things about these cards

is that they’ll fit in a standard A2 size envelope.

Heartfelt Creations Fall Season Cards

Thursday, September 19th, 2013

What can I say?  I’m in love with Heartfelt Creations!  This was a new company to me and I must say I am so impressed.  The stamps in the Gateway to the Seasons Collection are gorgeous!  They stamp so clean and crisp enabling you to do a multitude of coloring and cutting or to simply emboss.  I’m going to share each way with you.

P1110405

My first card I cut the aperture with Spellbinders Superellipse die.  I decided to color the stamped image with my Copics, now keep in mind, I am NOT a Copic color expert, I’m more the colorbook kinda gal.  But I had fun, and isn’t that what crafting is all about?  Having fun doing things you love?  I colored the image and then fussy cut around the top edge, even adding a few additional layers on the corn silks, the brick etc.  I then used Distress Ink on another mat to create a blue sky and layered them together.

HFC 1

On the following cards I cut a mat for the front running it through my Cuttlebug with the Spellbinders Celtic Weave embossing folder.  After lining it up with the front of the card I cut an aperture with the Spellbinders Labels Thirty-one.   I decided to try embossing the inside image with Clear embossing powder and using Tim Holtz Distress Inks to bring out the design.  You want to be sure and wipe away any ink that gets on your embossing, I use baby wipes they seem to work perfectly for the job!

P1110392   HFC 2                       P1110395   HFC 3

On all three cards I used seam binding dyed to match the cards.  I tied three fall colors together and on two of the cards I added the word Fall cut from the Spellbinders Font One.  By using some Forest Moss Distress ink and a layer of Glossy Accents it’s a great little tuck in to add above the ribbons.

I’m including my video so you can see step by step how I made the card and hopefully I’ll inspire you to try the Heartfelt Creations Gateway to the Seasons collection and make someone you know a gorgeous Fall card.

Spellbinders Antique Frame & Accents Card!

Thursday, March 15th, 2012

Have you got your hands on the newest Spellbinders dies yet? Oh my goodness, they just keep getting better! Today I want to show you a peek of the Antique Frame & Accents die. Very pretty! I really like the Accents and Motifs collection. They are all so intricate and elegant. If you are using these, you will want to give yourself a little more time to work the paper from your die. Being impatient may lead to torn die cuts! I like a pointed tool, such as a Quickstik, paper piercer (careful not to poke through your paper), or craft tweezers to assist in popping out my die cut.

The other materials I used for the front of my card are:

DCWV MS-003-00095-Chateau Lavender Mat Stack

DCWV MS-003-00096-Chateau Lavender Solid Cardstock Mat Stack

(Click HERE for Chateau Lavender products)

Inside I stamped the word and flourish with Heartfelt Creations HCPC 3449-Door To My Heart with Basic Brown stamp pad from Stampin’ Up and HCPD 3435-Feather Grass Flourish with a Versa Mark Pad, Tim Holtz Distress Ink-Antique Linen.

I know you are having as much fun as I am with your new dies! It is always fun getting something new and exciting to play with in the mail!

Thanks and Happy Scrappin’!

Friday, March 9th, 2012

Hooray! The day we have all been waiting for has FINALLY arrived! We have just received our first shipment of the new Spellbinders dies! We are crazy busy getting pre-orders shipped as fast as humanly possible!

We also received another shipment with the Silhouette Cameo, so they are shipping now also!

We want to thank all of you who have been patiently waiting! We understand how hard it is to wait (seriously, my own personal order was right in their will the rest!).  We do want to mention, that if your order is not shipped with this first wave,  we have more coming!

As I have mentioned before, we fill orders in order of arrival, according to product availability. It is very difficult to project product popularity (especially with brand new items), If we did not project enough of a particular item with our initial CHA order, we have kept a close eye on the new products and continued to order more to meet product demands. These orders will soon follow!

You are always welcome to contact us for an order status update by email or phone!

Thanks and Happy Scrappin’!
