Another Nice Mess!

Thursday, December 26th, 2013

Here’s a great card for those guys that have birthdays coming up.  Using Deep Red‘s cling stamps, Birthday Rx and Laurel and Hardy Nice Mess, you can quickly put together this masculine birthday card for all those birthday boys on your list.

P1120123            P1120119

Create your card using a standard A2 size card base (when folded it will measure 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″).  Mat decorative paper with a solid mat to help it pop, here I used the plaid with a black mat.  Add a narrow strip of black about an inch from the bottom of the mats, place 3 brads on the left hand side through all layers.  Adhere the mats, centered, to the card front.  Emboss the Laurel and Hardy image with black embossing powder on white cardstock, trim leaving a narrow border all around.  Note when you trim your embossed image cut the lower portion of the embossed stamp off (it reads, ‘you’ve gotten me into’).  Glue the trimmed image to a piece of black cardstock and trim again leaving a narrow margin all around.  If you don’t like the faces white color them with a flesh-colored pen to your liking.  Place pop up dimensionals on the back of the matted Laurel and Hardy and place them on the lower portion of the matted papers.

On the inside Emboss the Birthday Rx on a complementary colored cardstock.  Trim, rounding corners and mat on black cardstock, trim to desired size and round corners on the black mat.  Using either a punch or a craft knife cut an opening on each side of the matted sentiment.  Cut two strips from the same decorative paper you used on the front, narrow enough to go through the cut openings.  Slip the strips through the openings and tape on the back of the matted sentiment.  Cut a complementary designer print paper with Spellbinders Labels Thirty-One.  Adhere the matted sentiment and the paper ribbon strips to the label bending the paper ribbons to the back of the label taping them in place.  Glue the matted sentiment to the middle of the inside of your card.

Alter your designer papers and mats to change the look of your card.

Holiday Scrapbook Layout and Shipping Deadlines!

Wednesday, November 13th, 2013

I know it sounds weird to put holiday scrapbook layout and shipping deadlines in the same heading, but I want to make sure to grab your attention somehow! If you are not a scrapbooker you may not have even paid attention to this post, but you will for sure want to pay attention to USPS’ shipping deadlines so let’s start with those, as these pertain to anyone wanting items shipped to them OR shipping elsewhere.

The USPS Holiday Shipping Cutoff Dates (recommended but not guaranteed):

Package Services: Dec. 14

APO/FPO Package Services: Nov 12

APO/FPO Priority: Dec 10 (Zip 093 Dec 3)

First Class Mail: Dec. 20

Priority Mail: Dec 21

Priority Mail Express: Dec 23

I don’t have any UPS information as of today, but if I get it, I will pass that along as well.

Now, on to the FUN part of my post! Christmas is my absolute favorite holiday, although I don’t pull anything out until AFTER Thanksgiving, as I like to celebrate each holiday specifically, but I can scrapbook Christmas all year long (which I usually have to do to catch up)! We have lots of products to help you with your holiday scrapping HERE!

Last Christmas was a bit worrisome for our family as my little granddaughter was in the hospital (again) right up until Christmas day, so we pretended it was Christmas Eve on that day with the grandkids, then they celebrated Christmas morning the next day with their other grandparents. They are small, so they didn’t know a difference, but Claire thought it was wonderful that Santa came to visit in the hospital and brought her a present. Thank goodness all of that is now behind us!

Since Claire was sick, she wasn’t her bouncy self, but Jared made up for it, since it was the first Christmas for him that he knew what was going on. He wanted to open ALL the gifts with as much excitement as a 9 month old could muster!

Product Recipe:

Pattern Paper DCWV (Older stack I had in my stash)
659002 Sizzix Thinlits Christmas Tree
656923 Sizzix Bigz Reindeer Flight
S5-030 Spellbinders Fancy Tags Two
LF-016 Spellbinders Grand Decorative Ovals One
HCD 716 Heartfelt Creations Layered Elegant Swirl
CL-04625 JustRite Stampers Christmas Inner Thoughts
CL-04430 JustRite Stampers Floral Flourishes Background Stamp
AF225 Hero Arts Mid Tone Shadow Ink Red Royal
Quickutz Splendid Alphabet (discontinued)
Versa Mark Ink Pad
Embossing Powder clear
Heat emboss tool
Petaloo Poinsettias
1/2″ Scor-Tape

I don’t think you can see this in the picture, but after cutting the tree I stamped it with the Floral Flourishes Background Stamp and Versa Mark, then sprinkled the embossing powder over it, securing it with the heat emboss tool. It has a really beautiful affect on the tree.

I cut four of the Layered Elegant Swirl and secured them on the back of the main photo with Scor-Tape.
To help the Title “Christmas Day” stand out I outlined each letter with black pen after adhering the letters to the page.
I inked around the lighter die cuts with red for added interest.

Everything else is pretty self explanatory by looking at the photos. I journaled the events as the letter to Santa which was fun.

Tip-To keep from getting really behind in your holiday scrapbooking, you can pre-make layouts now then just add your photos later!

Thanks & Happy Scrappin’!

Another die I use a lot is Tim Holtz Tattered Leaves Bigz die.

Just think how cute these would be on a place card like this Sizzix Bigz Place Card w/ Decorative Accent #2! The combination would be great accents on your Thanksgiving table.

Early Christmas Card

Monday, November 4th, 2013

What celebrates the beginning of the holiday season like an early Christmas card? You don’t even have to be holiday crazy like I am (yes, I already have my tree up)! I made this for my wonderful parents who just bought their Christmas plane tickets and we could hardly contain our excitement, so we sent them a little holiday cheer.

First off, the thing that makes this card is the Decorated Reindeer Stamp from Deep Red Stamps. I bought it because it was adorable, but let me tell you, it is far more adorable when you use it. I think I told my mother 5 times how cute it was in one conversation. I used a brown paper for the main part of it’s body to already be colored brown and I used my Chromatix Markers to color the rest. I wanted this card to shine, so I used some liquid glue and my silhouette glitter to make the lights sparkle.

She couldn’t be more excited to send this to grandma and grandpa, right? :)

Add your favorite saying, some cute Christmas trees and embellish your heart away with the new wreath (and trees) Die D-Lites.

Products used:

4X500203 – Deep Red Stamps Decorated Reindeer

S2-057 – Spellbinders Die D-Lites Holly Wreath

CL644 – Hero Arts Bring on the Merry Stamps

Tree Stickers

Glitter-2 – Silhouette Glitter Bold

Chromatix Markers

Jingle Love Cards!

Thursday, October 31st, 2013

The wintery white season is fast approaching and it will soon be time for snowflakes and snowmen like the ones on my Jingle Love Cards.  Today I have a fun Snowman card for you to make. Using Penny Black‘s Build a Snowman stamp set I’ve created a couple of cards to inspire you to give it a try!  This is such a fun set of stamps, you can change up his hat, scarf or even his nose.  I’ll walk you through what I did to make mine sparkle and glow in my video.

I’ll show you  how to create the textured body of the snowman and the mulit-colored backgrounds.

Take a peek inside and you’ll see I used Heartfelt Creations Christmas Sentiment Circles along with Spellbinders Delightful Circle die to make a fun eye-popping greeting.  Notice those fun snowflakes in the background? They’re created with a snow flake embossing folder.

Using Tim Holtz  Holiday Words embossing folder you can emboss, fussy cut and ink the words to form the Jingle Love Sentiment on the front of the cards.  So why don’t you get out your favorite Christmas Carols and make up a few of these Snowmen?  They’re guaranteed to make you smile the whole time you’re inking, glittering and gluing!

Thanks and Happy Scrappin’!
